#LHD PARIS CITY GUIDE

The Paris Express

The Webster’s Founder and President, Laure Heriard Dubreuil, takes us on a sightsee tour of her favorite haunts when visiting her hometown purlieu, Paris—what’s new, what’s hot, and what is a must-see—in 24-hours.

The French motto fluctuat nec mergitur, or as they say, elle est agitée par les vagues, et ne sombre pas. Translation: tossed by waves, but never sunk. The Latin motto is about as old as the city itself. And, it rings true. Well, I don’t sink, but I always float when I find myself strolling down rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré on a brisk fall day. C’est perfection!

So, what’s on the agenda for a day in Paris? A few of my favorite things: Café de Flore for breakfast, a trim by the one-and-only David Mallett at his Haussmannian apartment salon, and, oh, the must-see exhibition Irving Penn at the Grand Palais, but not before brunch at Claus. Luckily, for Parisians, dinnertime doesn’t get going until late into the night. And, tonight I am going to Café Clover, but not before Hotel Particulier in Montmartre for drinks. If you can, splurge on a night’s sleep at the Ritz Paris. Otherwise, indulge in an hourlong famous facial at the Institut Darphin Spa. Joelle Ciocco and Biologique Recherche are also divine.

For a great midday meal and coffee break, order un café at Holiday Café. You won’t be disappointed by the croque demoiselle, which includes quail’s egg and a fine herbs salad. What’s more, their store carries The Webster.

Life gets hectic. Day-to-day duties have us all dashing to-and-fro from here-to-there. And, all the while, it’s too easy to be glued to work emails and Instagram. (Say hi to me @thewebster!). I always make a point to take one moment from the day and look up and delight in the skyline. And, as touristy as it is, there is nothing more magical and humbling than the Eiffel Tower. Elle ne vieillit jamais!

This autumn afternoon in Paris is giving me some serious fall breeze. The day is bright and airy, which calls for my wear-everywhere skirt by Rosie Assouline. Since I’m not quite ready to bid au revoir to my Summer wardrobe, I’m going for a color-popping pairing: this time, I styled my hodges podges midi with a floral print shirt by Altuzarra.

The eating tour continues! Caviar Kaspia was founded in 1927, and while the menu has seen some updates and changes over the past ninety-years—breathe easy, the baerie caviar remains!—there’s still a palpable roaring vibe. I love their signature teal tablecloths. With its wood panels and tonal blues, it’s quintessential Paris.

Other classic dinner hotspots I never say no to include L’Ami Louis, Belle Époque, and Hotel Grand Amour.

Polka dots are most apropos against a Paris backdrop, and j’adore Jacquemus’s spotty gathered asymmetrical blouse.

“When good Americans die, they go to Paris,” once said Oscar Wilde. And, it is heavenly! What’s still lingering on my must-visit list? A drink at the newly renovated Hotel de Crillon. The interiors are by Chahan Minassian!

Inspiration is endless: be it people watching while in the Jardin du Luxembourg or the lobby of the Ritz Paris.

While there, checkout the Hemingway Bar. The sidecar cocktail was first created there with Cointreau and Remy Martin cognac.
