#LHD COSTA RICA

Pura Vida

When in Costa Rica, The Webster’s Founder and President, Laure Heriard Dubreuil, is better known as macha, which according to local lingo is a translation for a beautiful foreign visitor. So, what’s a wayward globe-trotter to do—what’s a must-see for any wayward globe-trotter— what’s new, what’s hot, and what’s the need-to-know—in 24-hours. Grab your bikini  and let LHD  lead the way!

Costa Rica is synonymous with serious surf culture. And, great surf, there is! Beyond those pale waves, lies a rich landscape—hence the name Costa Rica, which means rich Coast—that’s home to ten percent of the world’s butterfly population, 112 volcanoes, and more than 25 percent of its land is protected through national parks and reserves. Even further beyond Costa Rica’s eco-extraordinary lies a plethora of cultural institutions, like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum and the archeological Museo del Jade to discover. So what to wear when sightseeing, adventure seeking, and just soaking up the Nicoya Peninsula’s sunshine? LHD and holidayers alike are opting for clever accoutrements (like Gamine’s oceanic encre essence and Olympia Le Tan’s Caribbean Mystery strapped book clutch), Spanish-influenced sojourn style: dramatic Latin ruffles (like Lisa Marie Fernandez’s off the shoulder dress by day, and Givenchy’s ruffle embellished pencil dress by night), salacious string bikinis (like LHDEres’ Collins bikini top and Alton bottoms), and of course, bold accessories (like Maison Michel’s Blanche hat and Gucci’s moth embroidered Dionysus bag).

For me, the most memorable moments, are often the simplest of moments, like this one where Marcel and I are enjoying being silly and carefree.

With each new faraway destination, I relish the opportunity to delve into their culture and customs, especially in regards to their traditional artisanal crafts and fashion fare. I loved exploring the outdoor market at Museo Nacional—I’m leaving with handcrafted leather sandals, a beautiful gola (traditional flounced or ruffled floor-length skirts trimmed in vibrant color combinations), and a wide-brimmed cowboy-style hat and a crimson silk neckerchief, both of which are customarily worn by Costa Rican men.

Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a rugged, rainforested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of a protected jungle, teeming with wildlife including spider monkeys and quetzal birds. Pictured here is Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and Natural Park. Tap into your wild side by spending a day exploring the grounds. Adventures are endless! Don’t leave before you zip line the lush rainforest canopy and take a dip in the Eco Termales hot springs.

Costa Rica’s culinary scene is best known for its delicious locations and scenery. Some other favorites include Makoko, SurfBox, Chao Pescao, Restaurant Nectar at Hotel Florblanca, and Four Seasons Costa Rica’s restaurant Caracol.

That’s all for now. See you soon! Until then, I’ll be living the good life, or as they say in Costa Rica, living la Pura Vida!

Love,
