Nearly two years ago The Webster Houston, located within the Houston Galleria at 5045 Westheimer road, opened for business, and I’ve been a Houston-regular ever since. Each time I’m in town for in-store events and parties, or merely making a visit to check-in with my southwestern Webster family, I’m always amazed by my ferocious appetite to take in the sites and streets of H-town. Sure, there are my familiar favorites like SoulCycle, Equinox, and Pure Barre, but for an active-outing that’s unique to Houston, take a stroll through the heritage society’s Sam Houston Park, which contains 1800 historic building tucked away in-between Houston skyscrapers. I also always make a point to pop in to see, the ever-changing rotation of contemporary art at the Menil Collection. Currently on exhibition is Mona Hatoum’s Terra Infirma sculpture and installation show. Truly here does world-class art meet southern hospitality—Houston staples, both old and new, are the best-kept secrets for fashion, art, and design lovers at large—in a big way because everything is bigger in Texas!

For dinner, if time allows, I love exploring the best of Houston’s Tex-Mex scene! The list of amazing eateries is endless, but I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend Armandos—their queso dip and margaritas always add some Houston joie de vivre.

Hotel Alessandra’s

Hotel Alessandra’s Bardot Lounge, 1070 Dallas Street, Houston, TX.

For a pre-dinner cocktail, swing by the recently opened Rottet Studio-designed Bardot lounge inside downtown’s new Hotel Alessandra. Modeled after the American style cocktail bars that became popular in London at the turn of the century, this one also showcases streamlined ecclesiastical elements. Bardot serves as a posh getaway. And while they serve house-baked-pastries freshly squeezed juices and barista made coffees in the morning, I like to indulge in small bites by night provided by chef Jose Hernandez.

I like to walk over to Bistro Menil, the adjacent cafe located on The Menil Campus for a quick snack before I browse the local vintage scene at a few of my favorite antique furniture haunts. First stop is Lynn Goode Vintage, which showcases high-end furniture and decorative arts by the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Herman Miller, Adrian Pearsall, Charlotte Perriand, Mies van der Rohe, Marco Zanusi and Tommi Parzinger, to name a few. For lunch my options are limitless, but I stop at Brasserie 19 for French infuzedhors d’oeuvres. But before I do, I swing by Tienda X: a gallery-like shop space by Houston-based interior designer Garrett Hunter and architect Michael Landrum. The store’s rotating roster of design objects sourced from around globe, makes for unique in-store updates. One can find anything from Ming Dynasty and Pierre Jeanneret decor to Christopher Kreiling Studio and Faye Toogood goods all under the ever-important guise that everything must be rare, bizarre, and out-of-this-world beautiful. Birds of a feather fly together, am I right?
