An exponent of Italian industrial and interior design, Marcello Cuneo was born in 1933 in the Cagliari region of Italy, and studied painting, pottery, and architecture in Milan. In 1962, Cuneo rose to international recognition for his collaboration with Gio Ponti on numerous architectural projects which included commercial buildings, museums, churches, and villas. In this formative decade of his career when experimental design was prominent, Cuneo designed the ceramic table lamp, detailed with a revolving shade as an homage to the famous Eclisse lamp by Vico Magistretti.

Through the 70s, Cuneo continued designing on freelance projects with heralded manufacturers such as Arflex, Cassina and La Linea, with whom he produced some of his most iconic pieces including the Longobarda Lamp, Luisa Folding Chairs, and the Mac armchair, all timeless celebrated pieces.
