Founded in 1949 in Kobe, Japan by Kihachiro Onitsuka, Onitsuka Tiger is one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan. A former military officer, Onitsuka was committed to promoting youth athletics in a post-war period in Japan. He created the first ASICS sneakers in his living room, thus spawning the expansion of a premium performance and lifestyle footwear brand that blends Japanese heritage and modern sportswear.
The iconic Mexico 66 sneaker was introduced in 1968 during the pre-olympic trials in Mexico City, sporting the brand’s famous ASICS stripe on a leather upper. In collaboration with the legendary arcade franchise Street Fighter, OT recreated the Mexico 66 in a colorway inspired by the game’s beloved heroine Chun Li.
