Born in Dominican Republic, Oscar De La Renta grew up infatuated with fashion design, which led him to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando Madrid. He was an apprentice of Cristobal Baleniaga and then Antonio del Castillo at Lanvin, later moving to the U.S. to work for Elizabeth Arden. In 1965, De la Renta began his own signature ready-to-wear label and bridal collection, which were known for their vibrant yet elegant red-carpet ready gowns and cocktail dresses.

Following his death in 2014, designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia took over as co-Creative Directors. Under their vision, the American heritage brand has found a balance between the traditional show-stopping with their signature relaxed look. The brand now sees evening wear with wide-leg trousers paired with standout bejeweled fur coats and feminine tailored suits.
