Created by Susie Cave (née Bick) in 2014, the romantically gothic label The Vampire’s Wife, was started in the seaside town of Brighton, England where the designer—once a star subject in the works of Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton—lives with her son and husband Nick Cave of Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. What set out to be a small capsule collection made for her close circle, the label was catapulted into international popularity, endorsed by celebrities on red carpets.
Touting a demure feminine charm, The Vampire’s Wife features tea dresses, gowns, and skirts cut from a variety of fine fabrications such as British shirtmakers’ cotton, bespoked silk and jacquard, ranging in lengths from midi to maxi. Retro glamour presents itself in rich floral prints, fitted bodices along with ruffled sleeves and hems. Accessories like coordinating bags are more recent additions to look out for.
