In the early ‘70s brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren opened up a small shoe-making shop in West California that specialized in custom-made handcrafted shoes. The small shop became the home of the ‘70s California skateboard era. Their sneakers featuring sticky soles and rugged silhouettes were debuted in that same location, and is now as their most iconic design. Since then Vans has grown into a lifestyle brand ranging from hosting music festivals, to building skating rinks to cornering the market on pro-sport endorsements.
