Layered Looks

Dressing for frigid temps does not always equate to waddling around in a style compromising full body arctic suit. The art of colder weather wear lies in layering, a considered assemblage of threads in which choosing each piece is an expression of taste in itself. After all, when retreating to the warm indoors, you’d want to reveal an inner allure that stacks up. Begin with minimal knits like a soft, smooth t-shirt by Puma X XO, or for a slimmer fit, the Plain T-Shirt from Julien David. Then, slip on a woven top like the Worker Shirt, followed by an oversized sweater, both by Maison Margiela. For an edgier look, start with a dress shirt like the contrast button-down from Thom Browne and pull over a sized-up graphic print tee by Raf Simons. When the mercury really drops, try a sweatshirt instead. Here is opportunity to underscore appeal with an all over printed shirt such as a tropical number from Stella McCartney for contrasting collar and cuff details. For bottoms, any type of thermal can be worn under track pants, or if you’re looking for some extra shape to add to your tapered slacks, experiment with loose fit shorts by OAMC. And of course there’s always more classic toppers like a chunky cardigan and light denim jackets for tucking beneath a finishing coat. As an added wardrobe bonus, each layer will lend to multiple looks in your wardrobe.
