Austrian-born American designer, Rudolf “Rudi” Gernreich was a pioneer of innovative designs in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Launched in Los Angeles, the dynamic styles were eccentric, futuristic and liberating. His unisex pieces and topless bathing suits were regarded as provocative, and were even used for protesting. Gernreich gained nationwide recognition and a cult following. After years out of the scene, CEO Matthias Kind and co-artistic directors Camilla Nickerson and Neville Wakefield are relaunching the brand beginning fall 2018. The same provoking silhouettes will remain, as the first collection pays homage to the brand’s roots using red, white and black knitwear.
