Tokyo-based designer Yuta ishihara, launched timeless jewelry brand Shihara in 2010 to give women unconventional yet practical pieces that can be worn everyday. His pieces are as sculptural as they are functional with minimal decorative elements. Born surrounded with the gemstone factories and metalwork shops in the Yamansashi neighborhood of Japan, Ishiara was exposed to jewelry at a young age. With his utilitarian aesthetic, he handcrafts delicate 18k gold pieces that explore geometric and dimensional elements. Using an innovative philosophy he calls “subtraction,” Ishihara subtly includes adjustable closures and concealed hinges that allow each piece to move and form in a variety of ways.
